July was full of ARCS and some rereads when I hit a book slump while in the middle of a book. Given that it’s my last month before school resumes, I quickly remedied that!
Wings Unseen
Rating: 4/5
ARC: Due to be released on August 22, 2017
I loved this series because it reminded me so much of Falling Kingdoms. I enjoyed most of its chapters and loved the progression of the plot and the roles of each character!
Mask of Shadows
Rating: 2/5
ARC: Due to be released on August 29, 2017
Mask of Shadows is a fantasy book that follows a genderfluid character, Sal. As much as I wanted to enjoy this book because of the protagonist, the other elements fell short.
Words in Deep Blue
Rating: 3/5
It’s a book about books! The writing was light and fun. I loved recognizing authors that were mentioned in this book, however, it did teeter on the edge of being pretentious–a common problem with books about books.
Overall, it was an average read. I probably would not read it again, though.
Frostblood
Rating: 4/5
I have to admit that Frostblood is your typical fantasy book as it follows all the cliché tropes. Despite that, it was still a masterpiece on its own!
For all the slandering I did while reading the book via Goodreads updates, I found myself enjoying it!
Girls Made of Snow and Glass
Rating: 5/5
ARC: Due to be released on September 5, 2017
A retelling of Snow White with its own sense of originality, this has got to be one of the best fantasy books I’ve read in a long time.
I am very grateful to have received an ARC from its publisher!
A Court of Mist and Fury
Rating: 5/5
Reread
I hit a slump in the middle of reading A Gathering of Shadows (I had to learnt that V.E. Schwab’s writing wasn’t for me the hard way) and chose to reread this to get back on track!
Safe to say it worked. I cried.
A Court of Wings and Ruin
Rating: 5/5
Reread
You can’t expect me to read ACOMAF without proceeding to ACOWAR. While I reread ACOMAF many times, this is the first time I truly reread ACOWAR because it is a long book in itself.
I had no regrets finishing this book and I have never felt so alive.
A Gathering of Shadows
Rating: 4/5
It took me a while to finish this book, but I’m glad I decided to push through after putting it down twice.
Kell and Lila have got me hooked on their slow burn of a romance and I can’t wait to pick up Book 3!
A Conjuring of Light
Rating: 5/5
Well, that was one hell of a finale. A Conjuring of Light was a mix of moments where I fell asleep, was on the edge of my seat, and everything in between.
Everyone told me that this series gets better with each book, and guess what, they were absolutely right.
I still have to read ACOWAR but have to read some other books first.. I hate having to prioritize books – especially when there’s a sequel I’m desperate to dive into, haha.
Recently also bought Schwab’s books, so looking forward to those as well!
[Good think ACOMAF got you out of your reading slump. If there’s any book that could succeed at that, it would be that one. Because.. Soup and paint.]

ACOMAF is a pretty good go-to when in a reading slump.
Wings Unseen is definitely one I’ll have to look out for now! Also, Girls Made of Snow and Glass is such an interesting title that I’m going to have to check it out as well! Nice marketing on behalf of the publishers there, I must say.
I’m so glad you think the Shades of Magic books get better. I’ve had the first one on my TBR for two years and I haven’t read it. I always get really excited about someone raving about it and then see someone say they didn’t like it.

Girls Made of Snow and Glass is a seriously good book. A retelling of Snow White (but in my opinion, it’s waaaay better than Snow White) that features a really good mother-daughter relationship!
Shades of Magic is a super good read, too. You should give it a go 😉

OMG, I’m having so much trouble finishing the Shades of Magic Series that I had to make August a #VictoriaSchwabMonth. I do want to give them a sporting chance but I haven’t been able to find it in me…

As someone who struggled also, I can definitely say it was worth it!
