“The villain is the hero of her own story.”

Mara Dyer wants to believe there’s more to the lies she’s been told.
There is.

She doesn’t stop to think about where her quest for the truth might lead.
She should.

She never had to imagine how far she would go for vengeance.
She will now.

Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer’s story.

Retribution has arrived.

As I said in my review of The Evolution of Mara Dyer, the series is now taking a turn into the genre of sci-fi rather than horror and this book just made that concrete. I love the explanation for the events that happened throughout the entire series. It reminded me of The Darkest Minds and a bit of Unravel Me!

Sadly, I skimmed the middle parts of the book because it just dragged on and on and on and on and it was leading to nowhere. I really tried to read and absorb it but my mind was too impatient for answers. 😦

I was expecting a mind-blowing conclusion, sadly this book did not succeed. It was an impressing conclusion but it didn’t get 5 stars from me. A lot of issues were wrapped up loosely and I was disappointed that the ending was centered around the romance because the last time I checked the romance wasn’t the main point of the plot… unless I’m missing something?

ISSUE ASIDE THOUGH, the last chapter was amazingamazingamazing. That switching of POVs was so clever of Michelle Hodkin to do and I loved reading every line of it. It was so poetic and romantic that I fell in love with Noah Shaw all over again as hard as I did in the first book.

I give this book 4 stars because as much as I love the conclusion, it wasn’t how I expected the entire series to be closed. The last line of the book fucked me up though.
