“Everyone is a little crazy. The only difference between us and them is that they hide it better.”

The truth about Mara Dyer’s dangerous and mysterious abilities continues to unravel in the New York Times bestselling sequel to the thrilling The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past. She can’t. She used to think her problems were all in her head. They aren’t. She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets. She’s wrong. In this gripping sequel to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the truth evolves and choices prove deadly. What will become of Mara Dyer next?

I originally didn’t love the first book (you can read my review of it here) because for its creepy horror feel. As someone who’s grown up not watching anything even close to a horror movie—or at least, I watched bits and pieces of a few movies and failed to have a peaceful sleep for the following nights—I generally don’t like anything related to that genre. We Were Liars technically isn’t even that scary but it still managed to creep me out.

Albeit after everything I said, I loved this one. This is my favorite out of the three books and that’s rare because I usually don’t like the second book of any series the best since it’s used to build up the plot for the concluding third book.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer takes on a more pressing problem. With Mara’s unreliable point of view, her “hallucinations”, and her continuous train of thought that keeps you second guessing everything, I can easily say that this book wasn’t easy to take in but was super easy to read (I managed to finish this book within a day or two!)

It may be under the horror and suspense genre but I can’t deny that the dialogues in the book are hilarious—it’s a nice balance to the serious plot and complicated situations! And speaking of its genre, I love how this series is slowly making a transition to a more sci-fi feel! Finally, a logical explanation to what’s been happening since the first book!

Just like the title, my rating for this book evolved from a measly 3 stars to 5 thrilling stars! My review for the third book will be up soon!
