The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. Jennifer E. Smith. Young Adult/Contemporary. 2012. 236 pages. 4 stars. [Source: eBook]
“What are you really studying?”
He leans back to look at her. “The statistical probability of love at first sight…”
…He laughs, then lowers his mouth so that it’s close to her ear. “People who meet in airports are seventy-two percent more likely too fall for each other than people who meet anywhere else.”
Four minutes changes everything. Hadley Sullivan 17 misses her flight at JFK airport, is late to her father’s second wedding in London with never-met stepmother. Hadley meets the perfect boy. Oliver is British, sits in her row. A long night on the plane passes in a blink, but the two lose track in arrival chaos. Can fate bring them together again?
When I posted a screenshot of my iBooks library, people instantly told me to read The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight the moment they saw it. I even got messages on ask.fm telling me that it’s such a cute and heartwarming book. Safe to say, I was convinced! I immediately put it next after the book I was currently reading back then.
This book was nothing short of cute. It’s like living a fairytale! I was surprised after I finished it that it was only then I realized that the entire story took place within a 24-hour span of time.
Plotwise, it was easily absorbed. The plot twist–if I can even call it one–wasn’t an OMG what?! situation, it was more of an Ooooooooh where it spices the story up. The style of writing was simple, fun, and enjoyable!
Now let me get to the characters. Can I just say how easy it is to picture Oliver as Harry Styles?!
Oliver was tall, British, and had green eyes. His charm too significantly reminded me of how Harry is during interviews, concerts, and the like. Oliver basically screaming “I am [a carbon copy of] Harry!!!!!!”

B U T. My mind seems to have said otherwise. Though Harry Styles would have been the perfect candidate for Oliver, I had a different idea. My Stonefield heart just couldn’t resist! In the book, Hadley was described as pretty and blonde. Which means….
Emma Stone with blonde hair + Andrew Garfield in all his glory = perfect Oliver and Hadley image.
If you disagree lemme just
put this here and try
to convince you that this
was meant to be.
Kidding aside, this book really is cute if you’re not looking for a really complex read. It’s been added to my 9/10 book list!
“Is it better to have had a good thing and lost it, or never to have had it?”
I really wanted to get my hands on another Jennifer E. Smith book after reading This is What Happy Looks Like, and I think I’ll start here! What convinced me was the comparison to Emma and Andrew who are my real life OTP haha.

If they make this into a movie I will demand Stonefield to be casted. It’s just meant to be!

I’d sign the petition! Anything with those two is bound to be cute.

I also really loved this book, and yes, I can totally picture Oliver as Harry Styles! I just finished The Geography of You and Me also by Jennifer E. Smith, and absolutely loved it! 🙂

I’m being tempted to read contemporaries lately and so far all I’ve been reading are cute, fluffy romances. Noooo, not another cute contemporary that’s calling my name! I have too many books to read as it is!

If the fluffy contemporaries have been calling you, then it’s a sign that you must read them all! Hope you enjoy this one 🙂
