“She said that you always had to choose between the path of needles and the path of pins. When a dress is torn, you know, you can just pin it up, or you can take the time to sew it together. That’s what it means. The quick and easy way, or the painful way that works.”

When Rachelle was fifteen she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village from dark magic. But she was also reckless— straying from the forest path in search of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.

Three years later, Rachelle has given her life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in an effort to atone. When the king orders her to guard his son Armand—the man she hates most—Rachelle forces Armand to help her find the legendary sword that might save their world. As the two become unexpected allies, they uncover far-reaching conspiracies, hidden magic, and a love that may be their undoing. In a palace built on unbelievable wealth and dangerous secrets, can Rachelle discover the truth and stop the fall of endless night?

Inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, Crimson Bound is an exhilarating tale of darkness, love, and redemption.

(This is a standalone novel, not part of the Cruel Beauty Universe.)

Where do I start? This book is a fantasy is a book is a fantasy. I took longer than usual to finish this story as I needed to put the story away for a few hours just to absorb the plot before going on and getting sucked in deeper into it.

Personally, I liked this better than Cruel Beauty. In comparison, romance was very prominent in Cruel Beauty, but in Crimson Bound, the entire story was so plot centered that I never really realized there was an ongoing love triangle until it was really staring right in front of me.

Crimson Bound had no dull moment to spare. It was jam packed with action hence my need for a few hours of absorption. Just when you think it can’t get any more complex, BAM, here you go. Something to blow your mind. Something to take your breath away. Something. To. Break. Your. Heart.

The plot twists in this book surpass any plot twist I’ve read so far. I even think it surprised me more than it did for Red Queen‘s and The Catastrophic History of You and Me‘s! I’m not saying anything concerning this matter anymore. If you wanna know the plot twist that’s worth screaming over, read the book!

I highly recommend this book if you’re into high fantasy and action-filled books. You won’t be disappointed! Rosamund Hodge has now become my go-to author for high fantasy books and I can’t wait for her next one!

Crimson Bound has been added to our Recommendations page and also to my 10/10 book list! It has taken the Hush Hush series’s #1 spot in my favorite books. It’s simply that good. I’m gonna need to get myself the physical copy ASAP.
